Overview

A popular tourist attraction in Nepal, the National museum is close to 100 years old. It is run by the government of Nepal and holds a huge collection of various weapons, pictures, art, paintings, murals, coins and sculptures that depict the fascinating story of this hilly nation. Spread over three buildings, Juddha Jayatia Kala Shala, Buddha Art Gallery and the main building which consists of natural historical section (collection of species of animals, butterflies and plants), cultural section and philatelic section.

The most famous building is the one that holds the ‘Buddha Art Gallery’. The Buddhist Section is not to be missed because it provides interesting information about Buddhism and Buddhist art. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable.

This museum tour takes about 2-3hrs hours, where you will be able to see various historical artifacts and also the types of fauna and flora found in Nepal and also military museum will also be explored.

To get there from Thamel, it takes about 30-35 mins in a private vehicle. 

As the opening time of the museum is 10:30 am, you have ample amount of time to have breakfast before our representative picks you up from the hotel. You will then travel by private vehicle towards the national museum. You will then have a look around the national museum and further move towards the military museum. 

Itinerary

The National Museum: Hotel pick up and drive to Chhauni National Museum which has three exhibition buildings in its premise named as Historical building, Juddha Jatiya art gallery and Buddhist art gallery. Its collections are able to give clear and detail information about Nepalese art and culture to its visitors.

Military Museum: The interior displays lead past endless paintings of death and mayhem depicting Nepali battles over the centuries, including several against British and Tibetans, as well as an armory, including a fine bazooka and circular weapon rack. Look for the portrait of the intriguing 18th-century queen Rajendra Laxmi Devi Shah, who trained as a soldier and led her army on three campaigns.
