Dhulikhel Tour

2 Days

Bhaktapur, Dhulikhel, Panauti

Overview

Dhulikhel has long been an important trading post on the ancient trade route connecting Nepal and Tibet. Nepalese have traveled to Tibet for centuries to bring back salt and gold. Similarly, Tibetans with their flocks of sheep enter Nepal every year during Dashain, the most important Hindu festival. Dhulikhel is a great place to stop for the night on your way to Tibet or back to Kathmandu.

The oldest part of town, the southern end, is a collection of fine old Newari houses, which are frequently occupied by 20 or more members of the local extended families. They may not all have glazed windows, running water, or modern furnishings, but they all have dignity and a welcoming atmosphere. The beautifully carved windows and doors, which are fine examples of traditional Newari craftsmanship, are their most valuable assets.
